Formula: Float Cap = Number of Floating Shares × Market Price

1.3 Shares

Meaning: the total number of shares issued by a listed company. In the Hong Kong stock market, for a company whose shares are listed in multiple places, Shares include all the listed shares of the company; in the A-shares market, for a company whose shares are not all floating shares, Shares include floating shares and non-floating shares (shares held by directors and officers, state-owned shares, restricted shares held by employees, and shares held by institutional and strategic investors holding more than 5% of shares).

5. Turnover Ratio

Formula: Turnover Ratio = (Number of Shares Traded / Number of Floating Shares) × 100%

6. Amplitude

Meaning: the absolute value of the difference between the highest and lowest price after the market opens, as a percentage of the previous closing price. It indicates the activity of a stock to a certain degree.

Formula: Amplitude = (Highest Price Point - Lowest Price Point) / Previous Closing Price × 100%

7. Bid/Ask %

Formula: Bid/Ask % = (Number of Buy Orders - Number of Sell Orders) / (Number of Buy Orders + Number of Sell Orders) × 100%

8. Volume ratio

Meaning: the ratio of the average trading volume per minute since the market opens to the average trading volume per minute over the past 5 trading days. It measures relative trading volume.

Formula: Volume Ratio = (Current Trading Volume / Time Since Market Open (Mins)) / Average Trading Volume per Minute over the Past 5 Days

2. Financial terms

2.1 P/E LFY

Meaning: the ratio of market price to earnings per share disclosed in the latest annual report. It does not take into consideration short-term changes and is calculated using the financial data in the latest annual report, so it lags behind the current position of a company.

Formulas:

In the Hong Kong stock & A-shares markets, P/E LFY = Market Capitalization / Profit Attributable to Shareholders for the Previous Fiscal Year

In the US stock market, P/E LFY = Market Price / Diluted Earnings per Share Disclosed in the Latest Annual Report

2.2 P/E

Meaning: the ratio of market price to earnings per share disclosed in the statements for the past 12 months. Earnings per share in P/E are calculated using the financial data for the past four quarters. Although these four quarters may start from a different month and straddle two natural years, P/E makes up for the seasonal effect of the financial data used in P/E LFY.

Formulas:

In the Hong Kong stock & A-shares markets, P/E = Market Capitalization / Profit Attributable to Shareholders for the Past 12 Months

In the US stock market, P/E = Market Price / Diluted Earnings per Share Disclosed in the Statements for the Past 12 Months

2.3 P/B

Meaning: the ratio of market price to book value per share. In particular, book value per share is the ratio of equity available to common shareholders to total share capital on the latest balance sheet.

Formula:

P/B = Market Price / Book Value per Share

2.4 Dividend Yield

Meaning: the ratio of dividends to stock price. It is one of the important indicators which are used to determine whether a company is a worthwhile investment.

Formulas for HK stocks and A-shares:

Dividend (TTM)= Total Dividends for the Past 12 Months / Total Outstanding Shares

Dividend (LFY)= Total Dividends for the Previous Fiscal Year / Total Outstanding Shares

Div Yield (TTM)= Total Dividends for the Past 12 Months / Total Market Capitalization

Div Yield (LFY)= Total Dividends for the Previous Fiscal Year / Total Market Capitalization

Formulas for US, Singapore, Australia, Japan, and Canada stocks:

Dividend (TTM) = Total Dividends per Share for the Past Four Quarters

Dividend (LFY) = Total Dividends per Share for the Previous Fiscal Year

Div Yield (TTM) = Dividend (TTM) / Stock Price

Div Yield (LFY) = Dividend (LFY) / Stock Price
